Doctoral Programs

The Grenoble Ecole de Management Doctoral School brings together research training at the highest level. As one of the top research-led business schools in Europe, the School builds upon two strategic programs – the Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) and the PhD in Business Administration.

In 1993, Grenoble Ecole de Management started the first European DBA program. The school’s aim was to bridge the gap between theory and practice with a doctoral program tailored to executives’ needs. In September 2009, the School launched the PhD in Business Administration program, a full-time program for those seeking careers in research and higher education in management sciences.

Both programs are designed to prepare students for careers in academia, research, consulting, or senior management roles. However, the choice between a DBA or PhD will depend on career goals and desired program format.

Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA)

The Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) is a 3-year, part-time, professional doctoral program aimed at experienced managers who want to bring impact to their organization and/or society by leveraging academic research to solve concrete organizational problems.

The Grenoble DBA is designed to fit executives’ needs with the highest quality standards: we see the DBA program as a true research-based degree. From Day 1, participants start working on their research, and the program is designed to ensure that students carry out long-term research projects that are highly relevant to management practice and are based on up-to-date scientific knowledge.

PhD in Business Administration

The PhD program at Grenoble Ecole de Management aims to educate scholars who will become faculty members in leading international business schools or universities. It is a four to five-year full-time program designed to ensure that very early on, students are involved in research and develop a solid publication record during their PhD studies.

This program follows a very hands-on approach to academic careers. From the beginning, PhD students are part of specific research groups and start working on research projects with faculty members. PhD students develop a research expertise in one of (9) fields of activity.

The Doctoral School is committed to valorizing the intellectual impact of our worldwide community of researchers to support the mission of Grenoble Ecole de Management.
