Grenoble Ecole de Management is a pioneer in France, having set up a training program built around the theory and practice of agility to implement efficient team coaching. What’s new for the Coach Badge?
In 2007, Jocelyne Deglaine launched two coach training programs at Grenoble Ecole de Management (Coach Badges Levels 1 & 2). As a professor and program leader at GEM as well as a professional coach, Jocelyne highlights the strong points of each badge level.
"The Level 1 Coach Badge enables participants to learn how to act as coaches and develop their ability to implement individual interviews and coaching. The Level 2 focuses on coaching for teams and organizations undergoing changes."
Combining "action" and "being"
"The Level 2 Coach Badge integrates training to encourage collaborative work as well as individual and team development. This professional training program is built around a holistic vision of organizations and team coaching. It offers practical skills to help organizations manage change," explains Jocelyne. The primary goal is to develop agile skills that meet the needs and challenges of fast-paced environments. This enables participants to reduce the negative stress and performance that can impact teams.
Two learning models
The level 2 program enables participants to acquire analytical tools to better understand the environment in which teams are operating and their need for agility. “This program is built on two approaches: the Agile Profile Coaching model (June - July 2019) and the Process Communication model (Sept. & Oct. 2019) with six days of training on theory to better understand how teams act and interact. These two training phases are supported by in the field training to support a team and integrate the course content from start to finish,” explains Jocelyne.
To ensure participants can properly ingrate the course content, they will be able to continue the learning process by participating in supervised coaching sessions that also ensure the quality of support for teams participating in the experience. Upon completing the course, participants receive the official Level 2 Coach Badge.
A revised program: behavioral agility to increase relevancy
“Our new teaching model is based on three agile positions: anticipation, cooperation and innovation. The goal is to implement these positions in volatile, complexe and uncertain environments. Whereas the previous approach focused on planning for a stable environment, the idea here is to consider the risks and consequences of a teams actions and decisions in order to offer solutions that meet the needs of multiple stakeholders,” adds Jocelyne.
The behavioral agility model, created by Jérôme Barrand and Jocelyne Deglaine, relies upon two primary factors in every context: the rational perspective and the emotional one. “Program participants learn to use two measurement tools: Agile Profile Development® – which measures changes in activity as relates to situations experienced by individuals and teams; and Agile Profile Inventory® – which measures the intrinsic potential of individuals to activate various actions. These tools enable participants to raise awareness about a situation and adjust behavior in order to encourage positive change,” concludes Jocelyne.
Level 2 Coach Badge: a unique learning experience
The Level 2 Coach Badge combines classroom training on theory and methods as well as in the field practice to implement coaching for a team. The entire process is analyzed and evaluated to award the certificate. Every participant benefits from two hours of individual coaching with a mentor: one hour for the Process Communication module and one hour for the Agility module. The program is open to applicants with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent as well as at least three years of related professional experience. Applicants with high school degrees may also apply if they demonstrate at least five years of relevant experience. Each participant must already have acquired a recognized coaching certificate. This complete training program also offers an excellent experience for consultants, trainers, HR managers, project managers, etc.
